Tiny Titan
Two colleagues and I developed a "classroom supercomputer" called Tiny Titan. This is a raspberry pi cluster running a two-dimensional fluid simulation which can be steered with an XBox controller.
Tiny Titan is now used as part of the official supercomputer tour at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. It helps members of the public understand what it means for multiple computers to work together on the same problem. There are also Tiny Titan installations at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the Department of Energy headquarters, and the American Museum of Science and Energy.
We were recognized for our work in the September 2014 edition of Popular Science magazine. We also received the 2014 "Outsanding Science Communicator" award from Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
